NEW POLICE TRAINING SAVED A CITIZENS LIFE
On March 19th Sgt Byrnes assisted his officers on a cutting call and found a citizen that had a 10 inch laceration across his stomach. The citizen was bleeding from the wound. Sgt. Byrnes recognized the wound as an evisceration and potentially life threatening. Sgt Byrnes acted quickly with his recent Tactical Lifesaver training and grabbed a Halo chest Seal from the trauma kit that was issued to him after the training. The Halo chest seal is a plastic seal with an adhesive backing. Sgt Byrnes placed the chest seal over the wound, effectively controlling bleeding and protecting the wound from further exposure. The investigating detective was told by Emergency room physicians that Sgt Byrnes' actions possibly saved the Citizen's life.
