I use a lot of 5" Strong-Tie SDWS timber screws. In this case its to attach the floor ledger in balloon framed walls. They are designed for deck ledgers, but we find they work well for guard rails, pulling beams tight to plates, for all our temp bracing etc. These are structural code listed screws that are stronger than any nail we use in framing.
