The Boeing 717-200 is about the leave the QantasLink fleet for good as the new Airbus A220's are being introduced in Australia. For this particular reason it was time to travel all the way to the other side of the world to experience the Boeing 717 a.k.a. the McDonnell Douglas MD-95 for the very first and also last time.
Being based in Europe, the option was either travel to the United States or to Australia to experience this aircraft type before it is too late. Since I like to combine it with travelling in Asia, the choice was made to go for the QantasLink Boeing 717-200 on a domestic flight from Hobart to Sydney as part of a ticket from Bali to Australia and then back to Hong Kong.
Qantas is planning to retire its Boeing 717-200 by mid-2024. So if you want to experience this amazing aircraft yourself, you have to be quick. Check on Flightradar24 on which routes they operate. My choice was for a flight between Hobart and Sydney, being one of the longer routes the Boeing 717-200 operates on. This trip was amazing and it was a lovely bird to fly on with its power roaring engines!
