The U.S. Army Futures Command’s Next Generation of Combat Vehicles Cross-Functional Team (NGCV-CFT) is on the move.
The new Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) will soon be fielded by Armored Brigade Combat Teams across the U.S. Army. The replacement for the Vietnam-era M113 Armored Personal Carrier, the AMPV improves capabilities, protection and tempo. This modern, highly flexible vehicle adapts to a variety of missions -- including mortar carrier, medical evacuation and treatment, Mission Command as well as general purpose use. The AMPV has been tested by Soldiers, approved by Soldiers and wanted by Soldiers looking to the future. But the time is now.
“The AMVP isn’t fancy but it is tough,” said Maj. Gen. Ross Coffman, the NGCV-CFT’s director. “It’s just a metal box designed to protect our Soldiers and keep pace with our killing systems.”
