Our first full day in Venice! The day started early with a tour to Murano and Burano. I will link the tour we did below. It was a great tour and I would highly recommend. Our tour guide, Francesca Jane, was amazing. She provided a lot of history of Venice.

If you are looking for informational vlogs on traveling to and from Europe, extensive reviews of hotels, restaurants or tours, or anything else, I would not recommend my video! Some of my few favorite tid bits she told us; If you go to Venice, you will often see restaurants advertising authentic Venetian food. This is because pasta is not native to Venice. As Venice is in Northern Italy, wheat does not grow easily up north as it does in the south. So polenta and rice is the more common base for meals in Venice before Venice joined Italy and began importing wheat and pasta. Another fun historical fact is that Venice joined Italy in 1866 (Italy united as a kingdom in 1861, and as a country in 1946) and was one of the last citied to join the kingdom at the time.

It was incredible to see the glass maker in Murano. We were all awed by his talent and precision of the horse and vase. Burano is also gorgeous. Truly, photos and video do not captivate the beauty and color of Burano! If I were to go back, I would take the Vaporetto over to Burano and spend the whole afternoon there walking the piazza and having lunch. It's such a lovely island and I would recommend going!

After our tour, we went to Osteria ae Spazie for a late lunch/early dinner. We actually sat at the restaurant for almost two hours since we were tired from not only walking around in the heat all day, but still jet lagged. After food, we walked over to the Venetian fire department. My partner, Ted, is a fireman and wanted to see the main fire department. Afterwards we slowly made our way back to the hotel, and took a two hour nap lol. As we were so jet lagged, we didn't even go back out that night and just caught up on sleep and rest.
