Reaper Tip #8: In this video I show you 4 reasons why the master playback rate in REAPER is such an useful tool for mixing, recording and sound design. I often use this slider for dialing BPM, sound design, practicing and tracking rough takes!
Skip to:
1. Dialing BPM: 0:19
2. Practicing: 1:32
3. Tracking: 2:22
4. Sound Design: 2:54
On top of all the stuff I mentioned, you can also use this for audio editing! Maybe short samples!
Also, keep in mind that if you decide to track at a different playback rate, it is just not going to sound as natural as playing it at the original speed, so just use this method for rough tracks :)
ADDITIONALLY!!! - The huge advantage of working with MIDI is that no matter how much you change the rate, it is going to sound perfect anyways. Since it is not actually modifying the sound of the instrument, it is just taking less or more time to hit the note. So for example if you got MIDI drums loop, you can just play around with the slide and its going to sound great at any speed you set it up! Good stuff for just jamming, I love it.
