Melanie was diagnosed with cervical cancer in her twenties. But, while she was undergoing surgery, her heart stopped unexpectedly. Melanie had was is called "broken heart syndrome", where the heart stops under stress or a traumatic event. Melanie was then able to receive the partial hysterectomy she needed to beat cervical cancer.
