The number one responsibility of parents is to pass on the Catholic faith in order get their children to heaven. There is nothing more important than this. But how? Raising children in the Catholic faith is tough. Faith formation, participating in the Sacraments, a prayer life within the family home all contribute. But sometimes we forget that the biggest impact on a child’s Catholic faith will be the day to day example of mom and dad.

How can Catholic parents model the faith to their children? If you made a list of the first sentence parents try and teach their children, the most common phrases would be, “Thank you, “Sorry” and, “Please.” To grow in the Catholic family children need to develop gratitude (thank you), then need to learn humility in order to repent and come to Christ (sorry), and for their faith to grow they need to express dependance on God for all their needs (please). We can teach virtue to children in a book, offer examples for the lives of the saints, but there will not be a more impactful lesson than for children to see their parents living and practising these virtues in the home.

Catholic Marriage Tip: So here is are important questions for Catholic parents. Having you ever gone to your child after you have sinned against them (perhaps in impatience or selfishness), and said I was wrong, will you please forgive me? When making your requests known within the family, do you regularly say please? It is come for your children to hear the worlds thank you coming from your lips. If not, do not expect your children to practices these virtues response.

Do we want our children to be devote while attending mass? Then we must be devote in our attendance of mass by participating in the responses, keeping custody of our eyes, praying the prayers, singing the songs.
