Andrea Francesco Calabrese, piano
A musical thought in the form of a Prelude (today of a Pastorale) for each day of the year.
Germaine Tailleferre was the only woman in the famous Group of Six, including, among others, Poulenc, Honegger and Milhaud. She always had to struggle a little harder for her composing status: first with her father, then with her husband. Yet we are faced with an artist of great depth: his music combines the elegance of the features with the austerity of writing, and ranges between different genres and forms. He was in contact with the greatest artists of his generation: among the musicians, he cultivated a special friendship with Maurice Ravel. This "Pastorale" goes beyond the usual sound clichés related to this form, and manifests poly-tonal sections alternating with a writing of great timbre thickness. I thank Chiara Laganà, a very good student of my Fundamentals of Composition, for reporting this piece to me.
