The model is characterized by its compact body with a narrow waist and wide lower bout, which contributes to a surprisingly full and clear sound despite its modest size. Crafted with a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides, the L00 delivers a rich, warm tone that is ideal for blues, folk and fingerstyle players. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, the L00 became a favorite among blues and folk artists, including legendary musicians such as Robert Johnson and Woody Guthrie, who appreciated the instrument for its versatility and expressive tone. Although production of the original L00 ended in the 1940s, the guitar remained an iconic model.
This 1933 Gibson L00 features a small sunburst typical of that year. The guitar has been through quite a bit in its 91-year musical life, but has obviously been well maintained over the years. The guitar has some repaired cracks on the top and body, as well as two patches on the side of the body. Internally, some braces have been re-glued, and the guitar has also undergone a refret.
