The casual observer might see no difference, but you’re no casual observer — there’s actually a lot to talk about here.

- FIRST GLANCE -
Both boots are six inches high, made with oil tanned leather, and have a soft-ish wedge sole.

The big differences from the outset are the stitching — Danner has two rows of bright white stitching along the moc toe, even correcting for how much older my Red Wings are. The Danner also has a little American flag on the cuff, and overall it’s a less clean look.

Red Wing’s moc toe is also triple stitched along the vamp, which combined with the Goodyear welt (which Danner doesn’t have) gives it a more durable construction.

* Leather is thicker, smoother, and more outdoorsy
* “Rough and Tough” is an extra oily, waxy pull up leather

DANNER
* Leather is thinner and more velvety to the touch
