So first off, "to get ahead" is a phrasal verb that means to progress or advance so that you have a lead. For example, in a race, the objective is to get ahead of the other competitors and finish the race ahead of them so that you come in first place.
When people say, "I think you're getting ahead of yourself," it simply means that you are thinking too far into the future. It's a common expression that I heard the other day and thought it would be good to share.
