This is an old French "Unique" handgun chambered in .32 ACP or 7.65 mm. These were manufactured by D'armes Des Pyrenees, Hendaye. The left side of the slide reads 7,65 Court 9 Coups "Unique". It's a model "R" and from the Serial number, was produced in 1945 or 1946. On the right-side rear of the frame is a mark like a capital "I" with a crescent moon above it, it is the mark of the Kingdom of Morocco, at that time a French protectorate expected to become a permanent part of France. Usually called a "palm tree" or "pole and crescent (moon)". The mark indicates that this pistol was intended to be used by the gendarmerie, or constabulary, a branch of the French armed forces but responsible for policing duties, especially outside of major metropolitan areas. They are not only in France but serve in French-controlled areas outside of France, like Morocco.
I picked this up several years ago. Sturdy little gun.
