Rare footage, filmed at Elstree Studios in 1979 of Mark Hamill rehearsing the Cloud City, Carbon Freezing Chamber duel with stuntman and Olympic Sword master, Bob Anderson, who played Darth Vader in that scene. Supervising them both is stunt coordinator Peter Diamond, who also worked on the Original Star Wars film a couple of years earlier.

Next are ‘printed dailies’ that were shot on July 20th, 1979, again at Elstree Studios in the UK. This footage shows Luke duelling with Vader (Bob Anderson) on the Carbon Freezing chamber set.

The set was painted black. It was a round set but they couldn’t build the full circle because it would have been very hard to manipulate with the camera. So they built half of it, and it was a challenge because it was very hot and the special effects department were using lots of steam shooting out of the floor. The staging was very difficult. The actors were about 30 feet off the ground and we had to be careful that they didn’t fall.
