Chopin also has known his portion of quarantine. Throughout his short life he suffered from tuberculosis, a horrible disease for which there was no treatment yet. In 1838, for his health, he went with George Sand and her children to the warm south, to Majorca. There, however, he was banished to the monastery of Valldemosa, where his health deteriorated even more. "A doctor declared that Chopin's death was near; a second said he was dying, and according to a third, he was already dead”, Sand wrote. At the monastery, Chopin laid the foundations of some of his most beautiful musical works, such as his Third Scherzo. His Berceuse dates from later in his life, from 1843, and is a nostalgic but virtuoso reminiscence to a children's song from his Polish childhood: "Już miesiąć zeszedł, psy się uśpily" (The moon has already risen, the dogs are already asleep).

From their home to yours. With ‘Flagey chez soi’ we want to continue to share the joy of music on our feeds during this uncertain time. We asked some musicians who are very close to us, to tell you how they are coping with this crisis and to record a piece of music for you. We look forward to welcoming you back to Flagey when we reopen. Until then, enjoy the music and take care! #quarantinecontent
