Antonio de Cabezón's variations on the "Caballero" tune, performed on the harpsichord by Hanneke van Proosdij. Temperament: meantone. Harpsichord by Johannes Klinkhamer, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 2000 (after Bartolomeo Cristofori, Florence, Italy, 1725)
Cabezón (1510-1566) was blind from birth, and showed musical ability at a young age, serving as a musician for Queen Isabella and Charles V. His "Caballero" variations are one of the the finest keyboard works of the renaissance. After his death, Cabezon's works were published in "Obras de música para tecla, arpa y vihuela" (Madrid, 1578).
This work is presented here for the first time in 4K, ultra high definition video as part of our free, digital library.
