For many Indigenous people - January 26th is a day of protest... and thousands have taken to the streets to mark the Day of Mourning... Invasion Day or Survival Day.

More than 2000 people converged the Block in inner Sydney for the ‘Invasion day’ protest.
In Canberra - leaders called for sovereign rights to be acknowledged.
There were also huge numbers in Brisbane as marchers walked from Parliament House to Musgrave Park.
In Sydney - Police were on standby for any trouble and reacted in force when musician Birrigun Dunn-Velasco tried to set alight an Australian flag.
Officers used fire extinguishers and tackled him to the ground.
But for the most part - rallies were vocal - but peaceful.
And in Adelaide, Survival Day protesters have blocked the path of a multicultural parade through the city. Hundreds of protesters staged a peaceful sit- in on King William St --before eventually moving on to another site. Protest organisers say it was meant to draw attention to the fact that Australia Day is not a day of celebration for everyone.
