Sizilianisch
This parody of a Sicillienne, a dance of Italian origin, is marked 'Shalkhaft' (Waggish or mischievous).
The large scale form is ternary. The piece starts in A minor, and 6/8 with a falling melodic gesture that is used at the beginning of every phrase. Phrase 'a' ends in the key of dominant minor or E minor and is repeated. The next 8 bar phrase 'b' ends in the key of G major, which is also repeated and followed by phrase 'a'.
Section B is in A minor but in 2/4 time and has 3 straight forward phrases that have march like accompaniment. This creates a stark contrast with the Sicillienne.
After this, A section is played without repeats but it ends abruptly on the chord of E major.
