Luang Prabang, our first stop on our 10-day Laos itinerary, truly mesmerized us after our 2-day slow boat trip from Thailand. Nestled in northern Laos and surrounded by majestic mountains, this charming town quickly became one of our favorite places in all of Asia. The city boasts a unique blend of elegant French colonial architecture and a relaxed riverside vibe. As the cultural heart of Laos, it's often the first destination for travelers beginning their Lao adventure. The entire city center is recognized as a UNESCO Heritage site, and the best way to experience it is by simply wandering around. Beautifully restored colonial buildings and enchanting temples like Wat Xieng Thong are scattered throughout the historic area. Life in Luang Prabang moves at a relaxed pace, with cozy cafés, bakeries, and restaurants offering stunning views of the Mekong River. One of the highlights is catching the sunset from Phousi Hill, located in the heart of the city.
