In recognition of March 25th, National Medal of Honor Day, this video pays tribute to all Medal of Honor recipients with excerpts from interviews with retired Army Colonel Bruce P. “Snake” Crandall and Captain Paul W. “Buddy” Bucha. “Snake” Crandall commanded the 1st Cavalry Division's Company A, 229th Assault Helicopter Battalion. He earned the Medal of Honor as a UH-1 Huey helicopter pilot in the Battle of Ia Drang on November 14, 1965; while flying for sixteen straight hours he resupplied combat troops and evacuated at least 70 wounded men from a landing zone deemed by some MEDEVAC pilots as too dangerous to land. “Buddy” Bucha was an infantry officer commanding the 101st Airborne Division’s Company D, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 187th Infantry. He earned the Medal of Honor for his actions in combat in March 1968 while his 89-man company fought a full North Vietnamese Army battalion, outnumbered by hundreds of soldiers. The United States Vietnam War Commemoration joins the nation in thanking all Medal of Honor recipients for their military service and personal sacrifice.
