What are thyroid glandulars? They are thyroid support supplements that contain dried-up portions of animal thyroid glands. Even though this sounds an awful lot like Natural Desiccated Thyroid, they are not the same thing! Thyroid glandulars, unlike NDT, do not include active thyroid hormones like T4 and T3. These hormones are removed during processing because over-the-counter supplements can't contain these ingredients. But that doesn't mean they aren't effective. They still contain powerful ingredients, enzymes, proteins, and pro-hormones which can benefit thyroid function. It's not clear why these supplements work but there's no question that they can be beneficial as they have been used for thousands of years in different cultures. In my opinion, adding thyroid glandulars can be a powerful tool to support your thyroid gland when combined with lifestyle changes and thyroid medication. Just make sure you purchase your thyroid glandulars from a reputable source to ensure they aren't laced with active thyroid hormones. This can cause problems for your thyroid and your lab tests.
