With a rich artistic heritage and museums dedicated to Vermeer and Van Gogh (among others), Amsterdam is one of the world’s true creative capitals. So it’s a natural home for BK49, an art studio collective that brings together 36 diverse artists—sculptors, photographers, painters—in one building. Last year, two of the studio’s artists, Jim Plasman and Mirjam van den Beuken, brought the collective together in a remarkable book called De Kunstenaars & Ateliers van BK49 Amsterdam. More than a collection of work, it’s a document of the unique personalities and studio spaces that make up BK49. And we were lucky enough to be invited in to take a look.
