About Rafael's Workshop:
Paul Klee famously said that drawing is like taking a line for a walk. A walking line is a gesture made in time, a trace of a movement. Within the field of psychology, James Gibson suggests that “observation implies movement”, in other words, we perceive the world as we move through it, while it is also in perpetual movement, meaning that nothing is static, neither the point of view of the sketcher nor the subject.
In this workshop, our challenge will be to track and express the multiple paths of the bodies and gestures of tango dancers as they move within space and time. Our ultimate goal will be to build a narrative that takes place through the overlapping of multiple points of view, several layers of drawing and using different techniques and materials.
We will work on the drawings as stories: a record of our own unique experience based on the interaction with the drawing materials and the surrounding environment.
