Today we're looking at stacking the standard silver Archer and the Ikon by J. Rockett Audio Designs. Because of the differences in tone, the two Archers make an excellent pair when utilized correctly, and order certainly matters. The Ikon's clipping structure is inherently smoother and gently compressed (germanium diodes), so it makes an excellent preamp circuit before a silver Archer set to full gain or clean boost. The opposite order works just as well for a different approach. Placing the more open silver Archer in front allows players to coat the silver archer with the sheen of the Ikon. The gainy-er signal pushes the diodes a little harder for even more compression, resulting in a smooth, juicy amp pusher. In either setting, the second pedal acts as a "master control" as its Treble control can be used to darken the signal to taste or curb its overall gain.
