RF micro needling for acne scars is it relatively new treatment invented just over 15 years ago. The difference between simple micro needling and radiofrequency micro needling is that the latter generates controlled heat. Control heating provides the most amount of collagen regeneration and scarring modelling compared to cold needle micro needling.
.
Cutis Dermatology has been heavily involved in research for micro needling devices over the past decade. We have trialed and used mini micro needling RF devices including Intensif, Morpheus 8, Intracel, Infini, and the very latest Genius RF micro needling system.
What types of acne scars can respond to micro needling?
Radiofrequency micro needling is a good option for rolling & atrophic acne scars. This treatment can marginally improve boxcar scarring however it is not effective for treating ice pick scars.
.
What does the treatment involve?
RF micro needling is conducted under topical numbing solution. Your skin is numbed for 60 minutes prior to the procedure. Each procedure takes approximately 20 minutes to perform, normally between 1 to 3 passes on scarred areas.
.
How long does it take to recover from needling?
Depending on your skin type in scar type together with the energy levels use, it may take between 2 to 6 days for complete recovery. Most often your treating dermatologist or nurse will employ other methods to focus on other types of scarring. RF microneedling can be conducted in conjunction with fractional laser resurfacing, TCA cross/paint, as well as surgical subcision.
How many sessions will require?
Most patients will require between 2 to 5 treatments for optimal outcomes. If you have deep scars dermatologists may employ other methods to simultaneously treat your scar pattern. For more information on RF micro needling head over to our website under the acne scars section.
