#Dimapur has been plagued by series of garbage dumping issues. Due to the lack of #civic #sense among the public, the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), despite its best efforts, is not able to maintain clean streets and environment in the city.
On April 12 morning, the DMC Sanitation workers were seen cleaning the clogged drainages within its jurisdiction at various location Walford colony, Tata parking and Rail Bazaar etc.
DMC Administrator, Albert Ezung has requested the public not to throw any garbage in the drainage. The GBs and chairman have been requested to inform the public to sensitize about the aftermath of such action as seen today after the downpour.
Public are also being notified again that throwing any garbage on drains will be penalised with fine if found violating the said order.
For Dimapur, garbage generation has increased quite substantially and around 150 metric tonnes of garbage is disposed daily. The DMC has around 160-170 workers who start their duties by 3:00 in the morning so as to finish their work before people wake up. However, the Administrator lamented that the DMC cannot clean the littering of hundreds of thousands of people.
Earlier, in a two-part series done by The Morung Express, the DMC Superintendent, Ganesh Sharma had pointed that there is an excess of administrative staff within the DMC, however, there are not enough sanitation workers.
