The Supreme Court will soon make a final ruling on Roe v. Wade and the future of abortion rights in America. "The Janes" is a new HBO documentary that takes us back to the late 60s and early 70s, when abortion was illegal and the Jane Underground Collective provided a space for pregnant women in Chicago to seek help. Heather Booth founded Jane in 1969 while helping a friend find an abortion doctor. Jeanne Galatzer-Levy was a Jane member arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit abortion when the clinic was raided in 1972. The charges were dropped when the court ruled on Roe v. Wade. Booth and Galatzer-Levy speak with Hari Sreenivasan about their work -- and America, post-Roe.
Originally aired on June 20, 2022.
