We are lucky enough to own a 19 year old from seed Japanese Black Pine and in a recent visit by the original grower it was offord that pulling down the lower branches would be a good move just now. It was also mentioned that Guy wires could also be used to achieve our goal.I thought how nice those branches would look if It had a nice wiring job and sought out to do just that. I decided going in that these older limbs would need two wires giving me an easier time applying and supplying enough wire for the job but this proved to be ineffective Heavier wires would be difficult on such short limbs and nothing else would hold the bends on this strong little Black Pine. So, I made a decision on the spot to go with the much less attractive Guy Wires. But I would have to say I underestimated the difficulty of wiring those short stiff limbs.I am not willing to chance damaging our Tree when Guy Wires ego side will do what we need to do without wire scars or damage from heavy wiring. The heavy wire used to anchor the Tree would prove to be our rigging point. for most of these but to finnish I had to make up a rigging point out of a loop of wire ran down the length of the pot and then going between the feet under the base.
