I've been waiting for almost 5 years to make a bass cover for this song. It seems that nobody else has made one as far as I checked on YouTube. So I gave it a shot. I didn't expect to use a fretless (or de-fretted) bass for this video, but it is what it is. The song is called "Cheapside Sloggers", performed by Volbeat, a hard rock band from Denmark. The song was featured in their 2019 album Rewind, Replay, Rebound. The song features guitar soloist Gary Holt from metal bands Exodus and Slayer.
Here are the recording materials I used. I used my HP Elitebook 840 (G6) laptop to record and edit the video project. For audio recording, I used an IK Multimedia iRig PRO device. I did not use any pedals for attachments. I used a 5-string Squier by Fender Contemporary Jazz Bass (made in Indonesia, 2018 according to the serial number on the neck). The bass was originally fretted when I ordered it used back in 2021. I saw a potential in the bass of being fretless due to the HH pickups having active electronics. I handed this bass over to a guitar tech at a local music store. Despite the costly fretless project, it was worth it. He did a great job on the fretless conversion. I love the results. I can't say I regret using this bass for this song, but I felt like I could've used a fretted bass for this cover video. I was confident enough to share this anyways. Enjoy, like, and subscribe if you're interested. Be well!
