Ofcourse parents can be more welcome in, more than NICU’s we strongly believe that presence of parents make babies better and discharge faster form the NICU, here can be part of the decision making and they can be part of the care as well. We provide KMC, that is Kangaroo Mother Care, for which we need the mother or father to be in the unit with the baby, that helps in reducing infections increasing their feeding quickly and achieving breast feeding very early on. So it is very important. Parents do come in and get the updates. It also helps them to get confidence and trust from the team when they are regularly updated and shown the baby and seen what the baby is going through. So by the end of the stay they are experts in managing these babies. So definitely parents are welcome in most of the units. In some units we may not allow them because of infection control. It depend on the neonatal unit, how people work with. But generally universally encouraging parents, particularly mother and the father and allowing the babies to see 24*7 in the neonatal unit.
