Madhouse has come a long way from its debut at the Mars 2019 concerts. Over the years we've seen a subtle change in Hua Chenyu's performance of this song. As with any artist, he's grown and changed. He's seen heartache, experienced joy, and felt the love of millions during every step of the way. This year we see something special. What do you notice about this year's performance compared to in the past?
In this song, Hua describes the inner turmoil he faces caused by outside sources and the effect it's had on him and his art. To his critics, Hua is crazy because his art and his thoughts are incomprehensible to them. To Hua, their opinions are crazy because so many lash out at him simply because they don't understand.
In the madhouse in his head, Hua retains a sense of craziness so he can continue to express his art. In the madhouse of the situation at large, he wants to escape so that he can be free and away from harm. When he matures enough and becomes strong enough, he can then walk away from that craziness and a new world will begin, and last forever.
