Members of the Learned Kindred of Currie held a celebratory dinner in Edinburgh, Scotland in advance of their being honoured at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tartan as part of their "Splash of Tartan" program.
During the dinner, ceremonial quaichs were presented to the Family Convention organizers in recognition of their incredible efforts.
Commander in waiting, Robert Currie also announced the establishment of the Learned Kindred of Currie's 'Inspire' award which will be given annually to the family member that best reflects to mission and vision of the family. This is not a Currie "Society" award, rather a family award. The distinction of these two entities is critical.
The inaugural 'Inspire' award was presented to Andy Currie of Glasgow, Scotland in recognition of his many years volunteering at Highland Games and the international Special Olympics program. Andy's daughter Andrea made the presentation. Appropriately, Andy received a standing ovation from all in attendance.
After dinner, Commander and Mrs. Currie and their daughter Claire Currie proceeded up the Royal Mile led by father/son piping team Stuart and Kyle Currie playing "The Curries Are Coming," a new pipe march commissioned by the Learned Kindred of Currie for this very occasion and composed by Stuart Currie.
Each night, two clans or families marched through the castle gates and were led to a red carpet on the Castle Esplanade to be recognised and presented with a ceremonial quaich of fine whisky.
For the Currie's night, we had over 50 kinfolk in full tartan in attendance and were actually asked to "loan" out some of our people to help round out the ranks of the decidedly smaller Clan Livingston. We were happy to oblige.
