High winds and heavy snowfall were caused by a Nor'easter storm in the USA on January 29th 2022.
Blizzard warnings were in place as high winds hit the East coast of the USA. Planes were grounded and non-emergency road travel banned due to the unsafe conditions. Residents were advised to stay at home or use public transport where needed.
The city of New York saw heavy snowfall, as areas closed due to the weather. In costal areas, heavy wind caused damage and flooding. Electricity shortages were reported in some areas, as power cables were affected.
Efforts to clear the snow were affected by a shortage of snowplough drivers. The storm had been predicted to become a bomb Cyclone as winds intensified, however it is unclear whether this transpired.
Warnings remain in place for a number of states, including Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and New Jersey as the icy weather continues. Authorities are monitoring the situation as it develops.
