In this lesson, we will discover how to interpret results from Max of load groups in different limit states and display the design envelopes including the simultaneous load effects.
We will cover how to understand design forces in ULS for concrete shell objects with the Wood-Armer method taking the reinforcement direction and torsional moment into account. The resultant of the shear force in two directions is also presented. Finally, the crack width can be displayed in SLS.
When Load groups are defined and the “Maximum of load groups” option is selected for Analysis, FEM-Design computes the maximum/minimum outcomes (across all finite element nodes) based on the most adverse combinations of the load groups as per the specified code-dependent load combinations or custom setup. The results are obtained by superposition meaning that linear condition are assumed.
Consequently, maximum and concurrent results of displacements, reactions, connection forces, internal forces (both bar and/or shell), and stresses (also bar and/or shell) can be determined for the maximum load combinations and groups.
The symbols “+” and “–” denote the direction of the maximal value within the valid systems: local or global coordinate systems. The concept of simultaneous results refers to simultaneous effects when considering a maximum value.
It is possible to download the model file (.str) and result file (.strFEM) for a template model if you have not managed to obtain any results after this online training.
The template model has a coarse finite element mesh, and the intensity of the influence graph has been reduced to a grid of 2 m x 2 m. Furthermore, only one lane alignment has been included for the traffic load pattern. This is done to reduce the file size for uploading it on the page.
