Robyn Henshaw, Director at The Peak Partnership, takes you though the steps to apply for your Director ID Number.
It is a legal requirement for all new and existing company directors in Australia to register for a Director ID. Existing directors as at 01 November 2021 have until 30 November 2022 to apply and new directors need to apply before becoming a director.
A Director ID is a unique 15-digit number that you apply for once and keep for life, much the same as a Tax File Number (TFN).
Applying for your Director ID is a 3 step process.
Step 1
Make sure you have a mygovID, which is different to your myGov account. You download the myGovID app to your smartphone or tablet, and it lets you prove who you are and log in to a range of government online services, including myGov.
If you don't have myGovID, just search the App Store or Google Play to download it. Open the app and follow the prompts to enter your personal details. Once you've reached the home page you'll then need to prove your identity in order to achieve a minimum standard identity strength. You’ll need 2 pieces of ID information (like your drivers license and Medicare number) to do this, and once you have obtained your standard identity strength you can move on to step 2.
Step 2
You'll need to get some documents together so that you can prove your identity to the Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS). Examples of the documents you can use to verify your identity include:
- bank account details (where your tax refunds are deposited).
- an ATO notice of assessment.
- super account details.
- a dividend statement.
- a Centrelink payment summary.
- a PAYG payment summary.
Note that these are your personal details and not those of your company.
Step 3
It's time to apply for your director ID at [ Ссылка ]
Here you’ll enter your mygovID email, then open up your mygovID app and enter in the given code to verify it’s you.
Next you’ll need to submit your proof of identity by providing 2 pieces of information to confirm it’s you (remember these are your personal details and not those of the company).
After you click submit, you’ll be taken to the director ID page. Read the prompts and confirm that you’re an eligible officer or intend to be within the next 12 months.
Confirm and enter your personal details. Click next and then tick the declaration to acknowledge that your details are correct.
Click submit and then you’ll be issued your Director ID on the spot. Make note of this number, keep it safe, and notify us at The Peak Partnership of your new Director ID so we can update our records.
