"The Carven men this season is an artist, a free-minded artist, an amateur artist. It shouldn't be a too impressive image, mixing things together very spontaneously. In the morning he wakes up to paint, so it would just wear a trousers and a coat on top of it, and that's will be his uniform for the all day."

10. SOUNDBITE (English) Guillaume Henry, designer:
"I wanted the idea of a guy with the same outfit the entire day, and maybe even like his entire life. For example, I get inspired of Nicolas de Stael but we have to make it in the Carven way with the Carven twist. So I don't see anything feminine, I see something more emotional."

12. SOUNDBITE (English) Guillaume Henry, designer:
"I was really into the idea of the South of France, the smell of it, the colours of the South of France, the attitude. I mean like what we wear when it's supper sunny outside, like the little hat just to get protected from the sun and you're painting your poppy fields."

STORYLINE
CARVEN'S PARISIAN PAINT POT
The style of early 20th century artists in southern France inspired Carven's menswear designer Guillaume Henry.
At his spring-summer 2014 show in Paris, turn-of-the-century floppy hats - to protect an artist's head from the sun - combined with fine sandals, for comfort - and wrinkled beige socks for a dash of humour.
They recreated how artists such as Nicolas de Stael would look when heading out with into nature to paint.
The artistic musing mostly worked, with Henry pulling off a stronger show than last season.
The set - an artist's atelier, with pottery on shelves and an empty easel - added to the mood. The silhouettes were all nicely balanced - with slim, high-waisted pants and some great loose jackets.
Henry's imaginative journey through colours of nature in earth green, burnt orange and mustard yellow strongly evoked the hues of Mediterranean summer - with the warm palette of post-Impressionist painter Paul Cezanne.
