ULCANS thermal netting as seen on two different thermal cameras at close, medium and long range both in the open and with partial concealment. (This material was sent in to me for testing by a YouTube viewer here and subscriber to my channel. Thank you! And yes, I'll get everything back to you!)
Thermal monocular: Pulsar Helion 2 XP50 Pro (640 sensor) set in rainbow.
Thermal Scope: AGM Rattler TS25-384 (384 sensor) set in Black Hot.
White light camera: Sony Handicam HDR-CX405 (9.2 Megapixel)
I elected to run these color palettes instead of White Hot as I feel they offer the best ability to distinguish and draw attention to heat differences, especially at distance and in cluttered backgrounds. I'm not trying to make the netting "win". I'm trying to illustrate performance at various distances in the real world in this use (which is not its prescribed use).
ULCANS netting is designed to be used, to my understanding, in a stand-off application (not a direct-contact drape, like was done here), and I believe its mostly used for hiding objects/vehicles/etc. I don't think cloaking individual personnel is really an application for it. But, since it is a thermal obscurant material, and people are curious, I decided to run the test in a personal use situation.
NOTE: I will not be doing anything with the ULCANS related to vehicles or objects, as I am choosing not to run any tests related to its actual prescribed use by our military. It could be misconstrued as me attempting to aid enemies of the US, or some such nonsense. So my testing with these particular materials will be exclusively limited to only applications in which it is not used by our military. Such as testing it as an individual mobile obscurant. Because it is a publicly available surplus material it therefore will find its way into the hands of law enforcement and criminals alike, as well as military reenactments, airsofters and milsim-ers, security operations, preppers and homesteaders, survivalists, hunting and camping, etc., I feel its important to test this material in real world settings in individual use scenarios, for educational purposes.
