The FASTEST weekend in HISTORY?! *Indoors*
Was this the fastest ever weekend of Indoor Track and field???
Information and video credit: Athletics Weekly Total Running Productions Citius Mag
Script: This past weekend has possibly been one of the best in history for indoor racing, particularly for middle and long-distance running. This saw numerous records being broken, including world, continental, and national records. With astonishing performances from the university Washington men's team in the mile, Katelyn Tuohy in the mile and Abby Steiner in the 400m... To name a few. Please Subscribe and let us know which result you think was the most impressive. Most of these historic performances took place in the US, with the Boston University meet being the most notable. This track is renowned for its fast times due to the consistent presence of top athletes and the scientifically designed track that is ideal for distance running with a banked angle on the bends, a plywood underfloor, and a Mondo Super x performance track surface. Woody Kincaid, who recently left the Bowerman Track Club, raced in the 5000m event along with numerous other world-class athletes. He finished the race with a 56.39 final 400m and a 26.27-second final 200m, setting an American record and becoming the fourth-fastest runner in indoor history, with a time of 12:51.61. Behind Bekele, Gabriesalse and Daniel Komen. He was infact dropped by On running’s Joe Klecker but due to the 56 second final 400m managed to claw a lot of time back. Klecker placed 2nd in a time of 12:54.99 Yared Nuguse also made headlines at the BU meet, beating Galen Rupp's indoor American record of 7:30.16 in the 3000m event. Nuguse closed his final 1600m in 3:56.95, becoming the first American under 7:30 indoors and the ninth-fastest runner in indoor history with a time of 7:28.24. This mark even beat Grant Fisher's outdoor American record by 0.2 seconds. Drew Bosley of Northern Arizona University broke Nuguse's NCAA record in the 3000m with a time of 7:36.42. He ran in the same race as Nuguse, as Luis Grehval provided 2200m of pacing help after running a 3:53 mile earlier in the day. In other events, Abby Steiner ran a world-leading 400m time of 50.59 at the Razorback Invitational Meet. Keely Hodgkinson, who is currently the only runner capable of challenging Athing Mu in 800m, set a world indoor record of 1:23.41 in a 600m race in Manchester, UK. This is supposedly suggesting a 1:53 800m time. Come outdoor season surely she’ll be even faster, especially since she doesn’t quite have the 400m speed of Athing Mu. Aleia Hobbs had a breakthrough performance in Fayetteville, AK, where she won the 60m in 6.98 seconds, setting a personal best, the fastest time by an American in over 23 years, and the ninth-fastest mark of all time. At the Dr. Sander Invitational Mile, Alicia Monson ran a 4:23.55 and secured the 8th-fastest American mile run indoors of all time. Katelyn Tuohy also stole the show with a 4:24.26 finish in third place, breaking Jenny Simpson's 2009 collegiate record in the event. At 20 years old, Tuohy has already achieved 6 All-American finishes, 2 NCAA individual titles, and 2 NCAA team titles in cross-country. Tuhoey also broke the NCAA 1500m record on route. Drew Hunter, who has struggled with staying healthy in his professional career, showed his abilities when fit with a 3:55.57 commanding and comfortable victory in the mile at the Dr. Sander Invitational, an indoor personal best. He will soon compete against the world's best at the Millrose Games and the Wanamaker Mile. Lucia Stafford, sister of Gabriela Debues Stafford, attempted to set a new personal best in the 1000m. Instead she added a continental record to her family’s collection with a 2:33.95 placing her 9th all time indoors. 4 of those ahead were Russia all running at the same stadium, 3 of those in one year… Possibly Lucia Stafford’s legitimate world all time ranking would be closer to 5th. University of Washington Intrasquad races at home meets rarely rise to the level of a top-10 moment, but it’s not often 8 men on one team break 4 minutes in the mile - and certainly unprecedented at the NCAA level. The Husky squad led by NCAA champ Joe Waskom squeezed 8 men (with grad transfer Sam Ellis running unattached) between 3:51.90 and 3:59.5. And just to make you feel slower, An 11 year old girl from Australia ran 4:28 in the 1500m and 9:38 in the 3000m, in the space of 3 days 😊
