In 711 AD, a young Muslim general by the name of Tariq ibn Ziyad landed on the shores of Spain along with 12,000 soldiers. Facing them was the oppressive Gothic kingdom led by Roderick, whose army consisted of over 60,000 men. Within a decade, the Muslims had completed the conquest of all of modern-day Spain and Portugal.
