Acclaimed Russian writer Mikhail Shiskin, author of "Maidenhair" (2005) and "The Light and the Dark" (2013), gives the opening address at the conference "Tolstoy and Spirituality," presented at the College of the Holy Cross on April 21-22, 2017. His talk is titled, "But to Continue the Life – For What Purpose?"
The conference was organized by Predrag Cicovacki, professor of philosophy, and Olgan Partan, associate professor of Russian, and sponsored by the Rev. Michael C. McFarland, S.J. Center for Religion, Ethics and Culture at Holy Cross. Thomas M. Landy, director of the McFarland Center, and Rev. Philip L. Boroughs, S.J., College president, welcome conference participants. Cicovacki, offers introductory remarks titled, "Our Uneasiness with Tolstoy." Partan introduces Shishkin.
