Video tutorial of the Slip Stitch Honeycomb Stitch.
This stitch is super easy and provides a fabric this is thick, lays flat, and is quite stretchy. This is a great stitch for beginner knitters and would work well for a scarf, blanket, or other projects. The video and the first pattern below shows how to knit the stitch in the flat (including how to knit using 2 colors). I have also provided directions for knitting this stitch in the round.

Stitch pattern (stitch is worked on an odd number of stitches); pattern is a 4-row repeat; level: beginner).
Abbreviations: K=knit; P=purl; Sl1WYIB=slip the stitch (purl wise) with yarn in the back; st=stitch; Sl1WYIF=slip the stitch (purl wise) with yarn in the front.

Cast on an odd number of stitches using any cast-on method of your choice (I typically use the long-tail cast-on method; video link to that technique is below). You can use regular needles; you don’t need double-pointed needles; I like using them for my demos (:

Pattern (to knit in the flat, as shown in video):
Row 1 (right side): K all sts.
Row 2 (wrong side): K1, *Sl1WYIB, K1. Repeat from * to the end of the row.
Row 3: K all sts.
Row 4: K1 *Sl1WYIB, PK1. Repeat from * to the last st, then K1.

Repeat Rows 1-4 for the pattern. When done knitting, cast off using regular bind off or any bind-off method of your choice (regular cast-off video link provided below). No blocking needed.

If you wish to knit the stitch in 2 colors, then use one color for Rows 1 &2 and the second color for Rows 3-4. Keep repeating like this for a stripped 2-color effect.

To knit the stitch in the round (4-row repeat): Cast on an even number of sts.
Row 1: K all sts.
Row 2: *P1, Sl1WYIF. Repeat from * to the end of the row.
Row 3: K all sts.
Row 4: *Sl1WYIF, P1. Repeat from * to the end of the row.
Repeat Rows 1-4 for the pattern.
