What does it mean to see an old place with new eyes? Probably something like my time in the Philippines.

I don’t think there’s been a place I’ve visited more than the City of Iloilo. But it’s been a little while since the last trip. Since then I’ve had kids, gained a lot of new perspectives on our relationship with nature, and grown a much deeper appreciation of my cultural heritage.

I wanted to go back. Especially with the kids.

I’m hoping that this is the start of a childhood punctuated with these visits, much like mine was. I know that, like me, it might take some time before their consciousness around culture and ancestry and things of that sort really take shape… it took me all the way until a few years ago. But I know planting that seed early counts for quite a bit.
