Frost buildup is caused by the condensation in the air from your kitchen. Every time you open and close the freezer door, that moisture
builds up.
Freezer ice buildup can cause your freezer to work harder, costing you money.
Safety first, always make sure your freezer is off at the mains before you start any defrosting.
Also don’t be tempted to hack away at the ice with anything sharp. You’ll risk damaging the freezer, or worse, yourself.
Clear the freezer of any food, put a towel on the floor and a large pan on top of that. To help speed up the defrosting process place a bowl of hot water in the bottom of your freezer.
After all the frost has melted you can clear things up with a cloth.
A few tips on keeping your freezer frost free:
Try and keep the freezer door open for as little time as possible. The longer you spend standing there with the door open, the more frost you are going to get.
The second thing you can do is make sure that your freezer door seal is in good condition.
Take a fresh new banknote and place it between the seal and your freezer cabinet.
If you can feel it gripping all the way around then it’s good.
If it can’t then its time to change your seal, as any gaps will just cause your freezer to frost up quicker.
Lastly, you could just invest in a low-frost or frost-free freezer for you kitchen.
