5. Royal Casket
Another treasure missing because of the nazis, the royal casket was created in 1800 which contained 73 precious artifacts and relics and a royal polish family member. It was almost asking for it to be stolen at that point. It had been well enough hidden to the point where no one would find it for a while until world war II broke out and the invasion of poland took place. The casket was placed in a palace outbuilding and a german worker at the palace spilled the beans about the treasure when the Wehrmact soldiers entered the city of Krakow. The soldiers not only plundered the palace but als the expensive tomb. Inside was all kinds of gold treasure such as a golden snuff box with diamonds, a god watch, golden chains, ivory box in a silver gilded frame and so on. The wealth of the casket was split up between the soldiers and never seen again. Could some of this be stashed away at lake toplitz?
4Yamashita’s Gold
Similiar to the Nazi’s, the Japanese were hording a large amount of golden loot that they had plundered from all across southeastern asia. Things like golden buddhas were melted down and turned into bullion for example and was used to fund their war effort, Because who isn’t going isn’t going to accept gold as payment! Much of the looting was done by yakuza gangsters and by the japanese government. It’s likely that a large stockpile of gold was thrown out into the pacific ocean or somewhere near the philipines to keep the allies from getting ahold of it. Many of those knew about the gold were silenced by means of execution to prevent spilling the beans. It’s believed that a ship carrying a large amount of gold from singapore was also shot down down by american submarines while trying to reach the mainland of japan. The rumors of the gold have inspired many treasure hunters. There have been claims made by Imelda Marco that her hustband Ferdinand marcos was rich after finding some of Yamashita’s gold.
3. Mammoth Cave Artifacts
One of the more mysterious national parks that you might not be aware of is the Mammoth Caves National park located in the state of Kentucky. This is considered to be the longest cave system in the known world and it runs at least twice as long as the 2nd longest cave system in the world. It consists of 400 miles of surveyed passage ways and it’s difficult to completely figure out all of its secrets. Consisting of limestone, many have referred to it as a bottomless pit and you can tell by looking at some of the rock formations that you’d most likely get a little bit creeped out if you stayed here too long. The true mystery though is the unexplored portions which are believed to exist but haven’t been explored just yet. And if people have lived here before, could they uncover more native artifacts, possibly from unknown civilizations?
2. Treasures of Lima
After spain had defeated the Incas, an enormous amount of wealth was moved from south america to europe but not all of it. Spain was having trouble controlling all of their colonies in the 1800’s and eventually spain lost the civil war. Lima peru was in total chaos at that time and the viceroy of the city decided to move a large amount of wealth to Mexico in order to keep it safe. The treasure included a lot jewels, gold, candlesticks and life-size golden statues of Mary holding baby jesus. It’s believed that the treasure would have cost about 12 to 60 million dollars in today's money. The person in charge of the ship transporting it went rogue and turned into a pirate. The treasure was too vast to carry it all and some of it was likely buried somewhere near the coco islands off the coast of costa rica. The coasta rican government forbids treasure hunting so it’s not totally clear if this one exists or will even be found in the future. Better be hunting some treasure on the downlow!
