The John F. Kennedy Eternal Flame is a presidential memorial at the gravesite of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, in Arlington National Cemetery USA, near Washington D.C. - [ Ссылка ] - The installation of the eternal flame was after a request from the former First Lady - Jacqueline Kennedy. The present fixed site replaced the temporary grave and flame which were used during the President's funeral on November 25, 1963. Architect John Carl Warnecke, a long-time friend of President Kennedy's, designed the new site and it was officially consecrated and opened to the public on March 15, 1967. Immediately after the funeral, which had been televised live and watched by 93% of all American homes, the eternal flame was visited by millions of citizens -- and in 1971 the grave saw over 7 million visitors. Jacqueline Kennedy died in May 19, 1994 and she is buried alongside President Kennedy, their son Patrick, and their stillborn daughter.
