The Hoare house prides itself on its eclectic collection of children's books, many of them almost unknown on this side of the water.

One of our favourites (and one of our favourite authors) is Chris Wormell, whose immortal "George and the Dragon", published in 2002, first introduced our hero, a tiny but benevolent mouse, who spooks the living daylights out of his immediate neighbour, a fiery dragon of singular nastiness.

This is one those delightful books which demand to be read aloud, ideally accompanied by a throaty voice and plenty of gesticulation.

Enormous fun from start to finish.
