What is Liveness Detection? [ Ссылка ]
#LivenessDetection distinguishes live persons from presentation attacks such as photos, replayed videos or 3D and paper masks. The scientific term for liveness detection is presentation attack detection. It refers to fraud prevention for #Biometrics in general, whereas liveness detection is specifically used for face recognition. The most applicable liveness detection algorithms are sensor-agnostic and require only little user cooperation for optimal user experience. This demo shows BioID anti-spoofing, based on #ArtificialIntelligence & proprietary algorithms.

Who is BioID?
BioID is a German biometrics company founded in 2007 in Erlangen and originated from Fraunhofer Institute IIS. This is a service for verifying document ownership biometrically for remote identity proofing. Why Liveness Detection?
Liveness Detection is needed to secure biometric authentication systems from fraud. For instance, an impostor could use a photo cutout, a video or 2D/3D mask to attack a facial recognition algorithm and get unauthorized access to accounts or data. Thus, fraud prevention is the main reason why liveness detection is required for a secure facial authentication applications.
How does Liveness Detection work?
Liveness detection algorithms analyze images or videos and decide whether they come from a live person or a fake. Methods used are motion and/or texture analysis as well as artificial intelligence (AI). How does the BioID Web Service work?
The BioID Web Service (BWS) is a SaaS cloud service offering facial authentication, liveness detection and ID-selfie verification for onboarding via APIs. Its functionalities can be tested for free at the BioID Playground or via a BioID trial instance for developers. Please contact us to learn more.

How BioID’s patented presentation attack detection (PAD) works:
• A proprietary motion triggering algorithm automatically activates the capture of the second image as soon as the person moves slightly. Thus, there is no chance for an attacker to quickly present two different images in order to spoof the system.
• AI-based texture analysis for anti-spoofing: We detect video replays and other copies like a deepfake or avatar with a special texture-analysis algorithm that knows when a recaptured version of a person is presented instead of a real face.
• Patented motion analysis: We capture multiple face images and check for changes and natural motion. A 3D face moves differently from a 2D photo, and our sophisticated algorithms can detect this difference.
• Challenge-response: For additional security, we guide the user to turn their head in a certain, randomized way and verify that the head was turned in the specified direction.
