This is the fourth of a four video series about the building of the last of the DD25 JMSDF Destroyer class, Asahi. The the 1st was Asahi, DD-119. This model is JS Shiranui, DDG-120.
These two ships ar follow on vessels to the four Akizuki class destroyers, all four of which were commissioned in 2011 and 2012. Since that time the JMSDF has built two new advanced Atago AEGIS Vessels, called the Maya class, two Izumo class aircraft carriers (which were follow on to the smaller Hyuga class carriers), and then these two destroyers.
The Akizuki and the Asahi class DDGs displace 6,800 tons. The Maya class displace 10,500+ tons, and the Izumo class displace 30-35,000 tons. Those two carrier will each carry 24-30 F-35B 5th generation stealth strike fighters.
This video completes the explanation and video representation and showing of the building of the vessel, DDG-120, Shiranui. It is a very modern vessel with dual band phased array radars, using GaN-AESA (gallium nitride - active electronically scanned array) Multifunction Radar. It also uses the COGLAG propulsion.
This last video shows the completion of adding all of the phot-etched metal parts including all of the railing and many other parts and instruments, as well as the final resin parts. The model is an all resin-metal photo etch and other metal parts. It is very detailed and made by Arts Technique. It is more costly than a pure plastic injected molded model, but well worth the cost in detail and durability.
I hope you will watch all four. I will put together a play list called "Building of the DD25 Asahi class DDG-120 Shiranui"
Please look them up and enjoy them. You can also enjoy full written out pictorial explanations of almost all of my models on Fine Scale Model Building's Model Forum. Just search "Jeff Head" on Fine Scale Modeling.
