🌧️ Heavy rainfall, combined with melting snow and saturated ground, has caused flooding in the Swiss canton of Valais.
🏔️ The popular tourist resort of Zermatt, near the Matterhorn, has been cut off since Friday midday due to the Matttervispa river partially bursting its banks.
⚠️ The Rhone River and its tributaries are threatening to overflow, with water levels expected to peak by late evening.
🚨 Authorities have raised the warning level for the entire canton from a warning to an alert level, indicating a need for strengthened monitoring and preparedness.
🏠 In Chippis municipality, around 30 people were evacuated as a precautionary measure and are spending the night in a local gymnasium.
🔴 Swiss federal authorities have raised the danger level to 4 (the second-highest) for parts of Valais.
⛔ The canton advises against approaching watercourses, parking on bridges, and recommends limiting movement in affected areas.
