The lower lid trauma frequently involves lower canaliculus as well. If a proper repair is done tear drainage is not impaired and if it is not done properly it not only leads to unsightly appearance but also incessant tearing from the involved eye as mainly the lower canaliculus helps in drainage of tears from eye to the nose.
This video shows a young man, with a 3 days old laceration of left lower lid involving lower canaliculus. This video can also be seen at [ Ссылка ] . The lower canaliculus was repaired and a nylon thread was passed through the upper and lower punctii using a curved instrument called pig tail and the suture was left in place for 4 weeks. After removal of the suture the canaliculus remained patent and no tearing was seen in the involved eye. The video is being shown to give some tips to junior ophthalmologists to learn how to repair a lacerated canaliculus.
